Miscellaneous Thoughts

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Chuck and I picked up some SubWay for lunch and drove (with the top down) up to the Peaks of Otter for a picnic. It was great and relaxing.

Later on we decided to have a fire pit and cook some silver turtles (yummy)! It was a last minute thought but we called and invited Aundi/Wes and Corey/Bobbie to see if anyone wanted to join us. We had run into a friend of Corey's and knew they already had plans but we called just in case something had changed. While at the store doing some last minute shopping, Danny called to see if we wanted to go out to eat with he and Lynn. We invited them to come up and join us. They came and it ended up being the six of us. The silver turtles came out great (Thanks to Chuck)! We ended up the night roasting marshmellows and making smores. We couldn't believe it --- Danny had never had smores! We ended the night around 11:15 but it was great!!!!

I have a personal goal to start back attending church and so far today was my 3rd Sunday. So far it has been real inspiring. Today was extra special as I hadn't seen Reagan prior to the service so I went to the nursery with Corey to pick her up. I called out her name and when she turned and saw me .... "MeMaw, MeMaw, MeMaw" as she came running. Talk about a special feeling. Nothing more wonderful that seeing her smiling face and running towards you so happy to see you!!!

My plans for the rest of today is to finish putting out my Fall decorations and just relaxing on this semi-dreary day.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Monday we celebrated Nick and Shay's birthdays. Corey, Bobbie, Reagan and Betty and Charlie came back for some leftovers and Apple Pie! It was so nice having everyone together. The kids played cards while Reagan and I went to the grocery store, made the apple pie, etc. Reagan is a great little helper. She was so adorable carrying her grocery bag out of the store. She even helped me clean up and put things away. I know everyone was tired from the cookout on Sunday but I think we all had a good time just being together.

Most of the day Tuesday was spent at the doctor's office for my pre-op checkup. It's only a procedure but you would think I was having major surgery. My appointment was at 11:00 and I was weighed (ugh!), blood pressure check etc. Then I had to go over to Carilion's lab where I was weighed again (uh -- don't think I gained anything going from one office to the other), blood pressure checked again, etc. Oh, and since I'm over 50 I had to have an EKG. What fun it is when you get old! An hour and half of medical questions and instructions for Friday. Even got a cute little arm braclet to wear until after the surgery. Only problem .... I had a hard time this morning coordinating my jewrely with the arm band (HA).

I did meet a very nice RN while there and we traded stories about our kids. Seems her son just got married and moved to Raleigh. She also just found out that they will not be coming home for Christmas. Poor thing said she sat on the porch with her little dog and cried for half an hour. I told her that was normal and to be glad it's Raleigh and not Louisville. She can visit in Raleigh alot more than I can in Louisville. As for the crying, I told her it really doesn't get any better. I still cry every time Nick leaves. Yes --- I cried yesterday when they left. I also explained that having my other son, wife and granddaughter here really helps. If they were to also move it would really be hard! I love being able to see them at least every weekend or every other weekend.

Only two days of work for me this week (Wednesday and Thursday) so this will definitely be a short one.

Keep me in your thoughts on Friday ...... I know this is a routine procedure that women have all the time but those that know me know that I am still nervous!

Love to all,

ThankFul for My Family

What a wonderful Sunday with family. Corey's second annual family picnic was a great success. On the Davis/Grant side EVERYONE but Aundi/Wes made it. It was great having everyone here. Bobbie had some of her relatives from both sides of her family that were able to make it also. It was really nice to see them again as well.

I started out the day meeting Corey/Bobbie and Reagan for church. Corey/Bobbie & Reagan came over after church and we visited and got everything set up for the cookout. Shay and her sister came over early and of course we anxiously waited for Nick to get here as he was driving down from KY.

Reagan was adorable (as usual) and you couldn't have ask for a more well behaved child. She hung in there right to the end. She was terrific.

It was a wonderful turnout and I am thankful for my family. I always love it when Corey/Bobbie & Reagan are here as well as when Nick and Shay are able to be here, but having them all here together makes my day! I am truly thankful!

Looking forward to another great day today as we celebrate Nick & Shay's birthdays!

It's Friday and the beginning of Labor Day Weekend. It's hard to believe that we need to let go of summer (which by the way we really didn't have one)and get ready for Fall. Of course, I love Fall also. Even though I will hate closing our pool in another month we will have our fire pit to enjoy. The weather in the evenings have been great for sitting around the fire and just relaxing.

I'm excited to see Nick and Shay this weekend. It seems that Shay is getting another head start to Roanoke and should be here tonight. Nick will be driving down on Sunday and they are staying through Tuesday which will be really nice.

Corey has planned his second annual "Family Picnic" which he is hosting on Sunday afternoon. We are excited that most of our (Grant) family and some of Bobbie's (Smith) family are coming. The weather is supposed to be in the 80's which should be great. It will be so nice to see everyone and should be a wonderful time.

Monday we have planned a small get together with the immediate family to celebrate Nick and Shay's birthdays that were last week.

We'll miss having Aundi and Wes celebrate with us this weekend as they will be in Key West but we know they will be having a blast.

We are awaiting news from Shay's oncology appointment this morning to find out about her treatments. Please continue to keep her and Nick in your prayers.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. For those driving I pray that it's a SAFE Labor Day Weekend.
